Pioneering Non Invasive Cardiology in India - Dr. Bimal Chajjer

Dr. Bimal Chajjer is a name that has become synonymous with Preventive or Non-Invasive Cardiology in India. Having come from very humble origins, in the last 25 years of his career in medicine, Dr. Chajjer has revolutionized cardiac treatment through his groundbreaking research in Preventive Cardiology.

Born in 1961, Dr. Chajjer grew up in a small village in West Bengal. Throughout his life he did exceptionally well academically and completed his MBBS from RK Kar Medical College, Calcutta, followed by his MD from King George's Medical College, Lucknow. It was after the age of 25, when he started working for the Department of Cardiology at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in New Delhi, that he started advocating Preventive Cardiology. During his MD he took up extensive research on the subject and later during his six year stint at AIIMS as the Senior Resident Doctor and Assistant Professor, he was extensively trained by Dr. Dean Ornish, the pioneer of lifestyle treatment in the USA. It was then, that through his Lifestyle Heart Trial that he proved that not only could heart patients prevent heart diseases, but that it was also possible to cure and reverse heart disorders through a lifestyle change. Later in 1995, Dr. Chajjer took up independent practice wherein he started training and treating heart patients through his new treatment methodology 'Science and Art of Living' (SAAOL).
